Thread Vein & Skin Tag | Sclerotherapy
You can book for a completely free and without obligation consultation with one of our skin specialist physicians to discuss you needs, requirements and questions.

Sclerotherapy refers to the treatment of small veins and broken capillaries mostly on the legs. The vast majority of small clearly visible veins can be successfully treated.
Very fine vessels more commonly found on the face are better treated by laser and/or I.P.L. Our aesthetic skin physician will advise you on your consultation visit which treatment is best suited for you and your skin type.

A very fine needle is introduced into the vessel being treated. The vessel is then filled with a strong saline (salt) solution. Salt in this concentration causes microscopic damage to the cells lining the vein. The body's repair mechanisms respond to this injury by trying to heal the vessel and in the process shrink or obliterate the vessel. Generally one injection is needed per vein.
The procedure is relatively painless certainly less than any other type of injection and /or blood test. A cotton swab may be placed over the injection site for a short while after the procedure. The average treatment session is approximately 20-30 minutes.
For one or two weeks the vessels appear more prominent. The injection sites look like mild insect bites but do not itch. The veins begin to fade after a week or so and can continue to do so for up to 6-8 weeks. Patients, depending upon the extent of the veins, may need between one and four treatments. The physician will give you some outline on this at your first consultation. Exercise after treatment is encouraged. Patients should have full realistic expectations of outcome whilst 90% of vein eradication is achieved, 100% disappearance is rare.
I.P.L. treatment for these thread veins is also greatly utilised, again the physician will advise you accordingly and this treatment area is covered in another section of this web-site.
